Trusted veterans service officer leaving after 16 years
Gross headed to Preston veterans’ cemetery
The reputation of veteran service agencies has suffered in recent years with scandals locally that have spread to the national scene like what’s happened with the Tomah Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
One veterans service officer in southern Minnesota, however, hasn’t experienced those types of problems.
Rob Gross of Houston County believes he’s been able to gain the trust of individual vets and their families in 16 years on the job.
Gross hopes that the advice he gives is the right answer for a veteran, even if it’s not what the vet or his family were looking for.
Gross gives up his Houston County job this week to take on an assignment in neighboring Fillmore County. He’ll be the director of the new veterans’ cemetery being developed at Preston, Minn., where Gross believes 400-500 funerals will take place a year.
