DOT delaying over 100 projects in west, southern part of state

Transportation budget cuts in Madison mean more potholes for the public, apparently.

The DOT is having to delay over 100 road projects in western and southwestern Wisconsin due to disagreements over transportation spending between Governor Scott Walker and the republican legislative majority.

The governor originally wanted to borrow well over a billion dollars for road projects. Legislative republicans eventually agreed to less than half that.

Both ignoring, says state senator Jennifer Shilling, the need for a long-term funding solution to fund transportation projects in the state. Shilling points to the two dozen projects in La Crosse, Vernon and Monroe counties that face delays.

But the vast majority of those projects weren’t due to start construction for at least another couple of years.
