New power lines switched on Tuesday at dedication

CapX 2020 lines send power from here to Rochester

Ninety miles of electric lines and tall towers are now supplying more power to Wisconsin and Minnesota. 

Xcel Energy and its business partners got together in Holmen today to mark the opening of the 90-mile stretch of the CapX 2020 line between here and the Rochester area. 

Ben Porath from Dairyland Power in La Crosse says the new line is a needed upgrade of power systems that have been working for decades. 

Even though some people living near the power line tried to block its construction, one speaker at the CapX dedication says controversy led to improvements in the new system.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
