Lewiston-Altura schools closed because of accident

ALTURA, Minn. – Students in the Lewiston-Altura school district got a day off from classes, because of a driver and, apparently, a deer.

The driver crashed into a power pole near Altura, around 2:30 a.m. today, while he supposedly swerved to miss a deer.

He then, reportedly, walked home, abandoning the car for some reason, without reporting the accident, and now faces possible charges for leaving the scene of a crash.

Power lines fell, and hundreds of customers in the Altura-Rollingstone area lost electricity. Lewiston-Altura schools called off classes for the day around 8 a.m.
