Frac sand ban not happening in Houston County

Planning commission will ask board to reject the ban

The latest idea for banning the frac-sand business in Houston County had a short life. 

About 100 people attended a hearing in Caledonia, Minn., last week, mostly to support a plan to block fracking-related activity in the county. 

But, after a four-hour session, the county planning commission said it would ask the full county board to reject the ban. 

That decision apparently convinced the anti-mining activists that their new plan wasn’t going anywhere. 

At today’s Houston County Board meeting, a mining opponent was set to withdraw the request for new sand mining rules.
