Event donates proceeds to most-voted startup

Suddenly, a grass roots business funding model has turned into a can’t-miss event in La Crosse.

Hundreds headed to the the Root Note downtown Wednesday night for the latest La Crosse Soup event.

The idea is simple: Pay five bucks at the door, eat donated soup and bread, vote on which of four ideas gets the money.

Because the bread and soup are donated, says La Crosse Soup organizer, Andrew Londre, all of the money raised at the event can go right to the winning business idea.

A special proclamation from mayor Tim Kabat to recognize the unusual startup funding model is expected to be part of tonight’s Soup event which starts at 6 p.m. at the Root Note on Fourth Street.
