Criticism to idea to ban hunting in state parks

of hunting in public are unwarranted

There is criticism for the idea of one state lawmaker to return to the days when hunting and trapping was banned in state parks. 

Democratic state senator Fred Risser wants the ban restored, saying people shouldn’t have to fear getting shot when they go hiking in a state park. 

Marc Schultz is chair of the La Crosse county Wisconsin Conservation Congress delegation suggests those fears are unwarranted.

“All people in the state have the right to use the parks and we all just need to share,” Schultz said.

So far, hunting and trapping in parks hasn’t caused the safety issues that Risser is warning about, he added, but opening up the parks has improved access for hunting to those who didn’t have it before.
