City plans major construction on Third Street during peak of Oktoberfest
Two 30-foot holes will be dug downtown Saturday
A couple of big holes dug in Third Street could trip up festers this weekend in downtown La Crosse.
The city has approved a plan by contractor CD Smith to dig two 30-foot holes in Third between Vine and State streets on the Saturday of Oktoberfest – starting around the same time as the Maple Leaf parade.
The idea is to take advantage of the usual fest closure of Third in order to get needed sewer work done for the big Lot C project.
The plan is to have the work start at 7 a.m. and wrap 12 hours later.
CD Smith acknowledges that it may not go that smoothly but plan to have heavy construction fencing put up around the trenches the entire time.
The contractor warns that not getting the work done during Oktoberfest weekend could delay the entire Lot C development.
