Mayors speak of recent police challenges

Kabat, Chilsen spoke at Freedom Walk to remember 9-11

The treatment of law officers and emergency workers in the recent past got some attention during a La Crosse ceremony to remember the September 11 terror attacks. 

La Crosse Mayor Tim Kabat said local police have been tested in the last month by incidents of violence. 

Onalaska’s mayor, Joe Chilsen, also noted attacks on police in other American communities, and said he doesn’t want to live in a town without police. 

The mayors were among the speakers Friday at La Crosse’s Riverside Park, as part of a Freedom Walk to observe the 9-11 anniversary.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
