Activists worry of train explosion in La Crosse

A La Crosse County judge could give BNSF railroad the green light today to start rolling trains onto a new track through town.

Citizens who tried to stop construction of the track have been hoping to get the Judge Scott Horne to delay use of the rails until the court challenge is over. There is still a case against the DNR in building the tracks to begin with.

Along with that, activists worry about the possibility of an accident or explosion involving trains carrying crude oil or other hazardous chemicals.

Railroad spokeswoman Amy McBeth says workers have been finishing construction in the last week.

Horne set today as the time when he would decide whether the Burlington track is ready for use.
