Bowtie Classic, more than your everyday golf event
In honor of Dr. Miller, event benefits La Crosse Public Education Foundation
It’s a little more than a charity golf event that’s taking place this weekend in La Crosse.
The Bowtie Classic Golf Outing and Knowledge Open will be played at Forest Hills on Saturday.
The event begins at 9 a.m. If you still would like to register, head down to the course at 8 a.m. Cost is $75 a golfer. .
The outing benefits the La Crosse Public Education Foundation, which expects to provide $150,000 in grants to district schools and students this year.
Befitting the educational underpinnings of the event, National Honor Society students will quiz golfers at each hole. Final scores are based on golf scores, but also on how well each foursome answers the quiz questions.
The event honors Dr. Charles Miller III, a longtime surgeon at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, co-founder of the foundation and known for wearing bowties. Miller died in 2011 while playing racquetball.
