Police caution not to expect constant coverage

New body cameras are expected any day now for the La Crosse police department.

Big expectations for the $1,000 camera sets, though police assistant chief Rob Abraham has previously cautioned against expecting constant coverage from the units. He said the cameras would only be turned on when an officer determined it was needed.

There are established guidelines about when that should happen. Abraham says the cameras are designed to capture images even in the moments before they begin recording, so nothing should be missed.

The body cams will be used in conjunction with the cameras already in squads that can capture a view from five different angles.
