Kabat’s exit 3 plan rejected unanimously

Full city council to vote on mayor’s plan next week

La Crosse mayor Tim Kabat will have to find some other windmill to tilt at. 

Kabat has, at this point, no backing for his proposal to fight the DOT and reject years-old plans to rehabilitate the I-90 exit 3 interchange – not after a city council committee voted Thursday night to unanimously reject his proposal. 

The right choice, suggests the DOT’s Joe Gregas, who believes the plans for exit 3 and Rose St. aren’t as bad as the mayor makes them out to be. 

“I may be biased,” says Gregas, “but I think the gateway (into La Crosse) that we presented is something the city can be proud of.”

The work on the exit has been ongoing and it’s not clear, even to Gregas, what will happen if the council agrees to reject the DOT plan. The full council votes on that proposal next week.
