Program touted as a triple win for health in La Crosse

You might call it a ‘junior career day’ with young kids from a La Crosse Boys and Girls Club learning about what doctors and nurses do. Members of the Mathy Club at Viterbo University on Wednesday also got information about healthy habits, while doing activities with local medical students.

Dr. Erik Gundersen of La Crosse wanted to bring the ‘Healthy You’ program to town, after seeing how it worked in other Wisconsin communities.  He says the program is a “win, win, win.”  Good for the kids at the club to learn healthy habits and get some additional medical attention.  Good for the medical students to get involved in community health efforts.   Finally, good for medical providers to be more involved in education. 

 

The Wisconsin Medical Society Foundation sponsors the program, in which med students lead children in physical activity, and show them how to make healthy tacos.

 

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
