Salvation Army tries new kind of kettle drive

If you’re seeing red kettles on counter tops in local stores…….don’t think you’ve just woke up from a long winter’s nap. It’s a new fund raising drive for the Salvation Army to help pay for thousands of meals they will serve over the next few months.
 
Julie Nelson with the local Army says while donations of food are always helpful, The Salvation Army fund raising drive focuses on cash donations to help pay for the behind the scenes part of feeding the hungry.
 
 
 
Nelson says The Salvation Army is asking people for an average gift of $6 since the cost of providing one meal in the meal program is $6. She says giving $6 to help a feeding program is like taking a homeless person to lunch. Nelson says the big red kettles will be back out around the holidays.
