USO Office Celebrated at Fort McCoy

Dozens of soldiers camping on duty at Fort McCoy got to enjoy a weekend picnic…courtesy of the U-S-O.  They got hot dogs and chips to celebrate the service agency’s arrival at McCoy this spring.  Colonel Steve Nott, the garrison commander at Fort McCoy, says the thousands of troops who come through the local base provide a demand for the U-S-O.  145 thousand just last year.

Ellie Hazlett from the Wisconsin U-S-O office has been a one-person staff at McCoy for the last few weeks.  She’s been very busy with the focus of office, both lifting the spriits of soldiers and their famlies.   

But Hazlett expects that soldiers stationed at McCoy soon will be helping more with the U-S-O.

 

 

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
