Jail Mental Health Needs Being Met

A decade ago, La Crosse County law enforcement was disturbed by a pair of suicides within the jail. They wondered whether enough was being done to help inmates who might be mentally ill. Conditions are much better at the jail now, according to jail therapist Steve Josephson.

 

Josephson says the jail is not a ‘torture chamber’ for prisoners who have emotional problems. He credits the La Crosse jail with having a good staff who can respond to medical needs.

 

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area.
