Onalaska Superintendent Frustrated with Teacher Licensing Proposal

A provision slipped into the state budget proposal by a Republican lawmaker last week would allow anyone with a bachelor’s degree to be hired and licensed to teach sixth through 12th grade English, math, social studies or science in Wisconsin. And it has Onalaska Superintendent, Fran Finco a bit upset.

He says he has no clue what the goals of the legislation would be…..and would like someone to clarify that for him.  He also hopes that, at some point, rational people start making decisions on the future of schools. 

 

The teacher certification provision was approved as part of a package of K-12 budget items by the Legislature’s Joint Finance Committee last week. The state budget proposal is not final. It must be passed by both houses of the Legislature and signed by Governor Scott Walker.
