Gar Has Sights Set On Retirement
One of the most senior employees in La Crosse city government has to be the superintendent of parks and recreation, Gar Amunson. When Amunson went to work for the park department, Gerald Ford was president, and Pat Zielke had just moved into the mayor’s office. That was 1975, and Gar says he’ll be ending that career in just over a month:
Park director Steve Carlyon tells the city park board that Amunson’s position will not be filled. The retirement gives board members a chance to restructure responsibilities within the park department.
