Boys And Girls Club Starts A Diggin’
A few Boys and Girls Club members in La Crosse got their hands a little dirty yesterday, to learn about growing food. They gathered at a vacant lot in north La Crosse to plant a small row of apple trees, which could become big enough within five years to yield Honeycrisp apples. We asked 8-year-old Megan about her favorite part of the tree-planting process:
Sacia Orchards supplied the trees, and operations manager John Brandsoy provided assistance on how to plant them:
The kids will watch the trees grow in the next few years, and apples produced by those trees will be provided to families that aren’t getting enough healthy food.
