What’s Going On With The Rail Lines!

For some in the La Crosse area, there’s been a constant mistrust of Burlington Northern and its rail construction plans through the city.  Maybe for good reason.  The rail company this week had no problem collecting a special permit from the DNR to build a second set of tracks through the La Crosse River marsh.  A permit that would allow track construction in the marsh even during the nesting season of the endangered black tern.  But, almost exactly a year ago, a representative from BNSF told county board members at a public hearing for a construction permit that no work on the tracks would be done in the marsh during the black tern’s nesting season.
