Sports Injuries Hit Close To Home
Public concern for sports related injuries has never been higher. The lone exception may be in 1905, when that year’s football season resulted in 18 deaths and 149 serious injuries. As a result of that season, and of the efforts of President Theodore Roosevelt, the NCAA was born. That message was brought to UW-L last week when the NCAA Director of the Sport Science Institute held a speech there.
In attendance, Sheldon Wagner, UW-L sports trainer. We asked him if it surprises him that the emergence of concussion talks has taken center stage when it comes to sports.
NCAA Director John Parsons shared how the NCAA manages student athlete health and safety and how well UW-L takes on these concerns as well.
