Traffic at Landfill Creates Push to Raise Fees

Nearly 50 years after the original Earth Day, Americans have gotten better at recycling, and reducing waste.  But we still need landfills, and La Crosse County’s landfill near Highway 16 has seen some logjams lately.  A decision to stop weighing vehicles bringing garbage to be dumped led some people to overload their vehicles for discount prices:

Randy Nederlo from the county solid waste department says hauling fees will be increased next month, to make up for the excess garbage that was brought in after the flat fee system was introduced.
