Governor Scott Walker wants to borrow $1.3 billion for road work
around the state. Department of Transportation Secretary Mark Gottlieb said a bonding plan is necessary because Walker doesn’t want to raise the gas tax and vehicle registration fees. But La Crosse County Highway Commissioner, Ron Chamberlain, says that may not work…though the county could use state money to repair roads here.
Chamberlain tells us the legislature is going to have to come up with as strategy with a sustainable long-term solution for building roads. Right now, La Crosse could use $83 million for those needs.
