Minnesota Farm Tax Bill Gains Support
Some good news may be on the horizon for farmers in Minnesota who bear the
brunt of property tax levies. A new bill being proposed in the Minnesota Legislature would exempt farm land from capital bond levies. State Representative Steve Drazkowski says the proposal has been tried before in Minnesota.
Under the proposal farmers would still pay taxes on their homes, garages and one acre of property. The rest would be exempt from new property taxes resulting from school construction levies. That land is already exempt from school operating levies under current law.
