Recalls Underway In BRF Over Police Department Move

The Black River Falls city council voted 4-4 last week to dissolve the city’s

force and move ahead with an agreement with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department. The mayor there had to break the tie due to what it is the department wanted. Not uncommon says La Crosse County Sheriff, Steve Helgeson.

But the move has not pleased everyone there. Efforts are under way to prompt a binding referendum question on the issue where city voters would have direct say over decision making related to the policing issue.
