Zero Ovedose Deaths IN 2014
The heroin scare seems to have diminished in La Crosse County.
Medical examiner Tim Candahl told a county committee this week that La Crosse County has had no fatal heroin overdoses in 2014. Just four years ago, a dozen people in the county died after taking heroin. The increased use of the antidote Narcan, and greater awareness of drug abuse, may have helped, according to Tom Tornstrom at Tri-State Ambulance. But he knows that people are still abusing other drugs:
Candahl says there appears to be a rise in deliberate substance overdoses, leading to suicides. He says the county should look into reducing that problem.
