La Crosse County Ready For Old Man Winter

During an average winter, county highway departments charged with clearing

state and interstate highways use around 500 thousand tons of road salt. Last winter was anything but average as several departments were searching for salt. Ron Chamberlain with the La Crosse County Highway Department says he’s been in that boat before.

Last winter, the state was urging counties to conserve salt by using a sand and salt mix on less busy state highways to conserve what salt was left. A good supply for this winter in La Crosse County says Chamberlain.
