Frac Sand Squabble

The Trempealeau city of Independence may be facing a lawsuit soon from the

towns of Burnside and Lincoln.  The city is under fire for a potentially illegal annexation of land in order to allow a frac sand mine to operate.  Lincoln town chair Jack Speerstra says it’s not the annexation itself that’s as concerning as what happens to those who live in the town around the mine but have no say in how it operates

There’s been several similar annexations recently in Trempealeau county in order to keep the mines from being regulated by county rules.  The state says the one over which Independence could get sued doesn’t follow annexation regulations.
