Hunter Found Dead In Vernon County

Vernon County is investigating a death from a hunting accident.

It happened in the Township of Stark on Friday. Police say 71 year old John Zumwalt of Beloit, Illinois was found lying on the ground, yards away from the tree stand he was hunting in on Friday. Zumwalt was bow hunting for the weekend on family property and never returned home. He was found later by a family member.

Zumwalt was pronounced dead at the scene and the accident remains under investigation.
