Higher Cost of Living Leads to Garbage Increase

Stuff just costs more is the reason given for higher garbage rates in the city of La Crosse.  At least for some garbage.  Harter’s request for a three percent hike in large item pickup and a 25 cent increase in yard waste subscription is approved this week by the board of public works.  Getting rid of that couch will now run you $21.75.  A yard waste can could cost you $8.25 per month or $14.75 per week.   In a letter to the city, Harter’s explains that the company routinely reviews pricing for potential changes and a higher cost of living is necessitating this change.  Meanwhile, the public works board has also approved paying Harter’s more for regular garbage pickup starting tomorrow.
