When the La Crosse County Board downsized after the 2010 census, it asked the La Crosse City Council to do the same, so the two local governments could continue to have the same district boundaries.
City Hall said no, and as a result, local government elections have become a bit more complicated. Now, one city committee has found a council reduction more acceptable…with the administration committee endorsing a cut of four seats. At Tuesday’s meeting, council member Fran Formanek had some doubts:
In the end, the committee vote for a 13-seat council was unanimous. The full 17-member council takes up the idea next week.
