Silent Robbery Suspect From Vernon County Might Get New Trial

Was he mentally ill, or putting on an act?

A Wisconsin appeals court says there’s enough doubt about Jared Molner to justify a competency exam for the Westby man…and maybe a new trial for bank robbery.  Molner was one of a group of local suspects in a series of bank holdups in Wisconsin and Iowa.  Molner was usually uncooperative, and rarely spoke while in custody, and a circuit judge concluded Molner was faking illness.  However, the appeals court found enough evidence of Molner being treated for mental disease outside Wisconsin to call for a new examination.
