Pretending to be asleep didn’t help a wanted man avoid arrest in Sparta
over the weekend. Saturday morning, cops went to a North Water Street apartment ona complaint of a couple fighting on the second floor. Officers could hear voices inside the apartment which stopped when the they knocked on the door. After several minutes a woman opened the door and claimed to be alone. Cops eventually found Monta Gipson-Groce pretending to be asleep on the floor. Gipson-Groce was wanted on a Monroe County Child Support warrant and was arrested. He was also found to have been drunk which violated his probation.
