Ophelia House Inspection Coming
Some changes could be in store for a women’s facility in La Crosse County
where two people almost died after taking drugs this winter…
A county committee will get a report this week on activities at Ophelia’s House, where battered or homeless women are often placed instead of the county jail. Justice sanctions manager Jane Klekamp says law enforcement has agreed to check the house occasionally for drugs:
Klekamp says drug use is ‘not out of control’ at Ophelia’s House. The National Institute of Corrections will conduct a study of the facility at the end of May.
