Man Dead After Onalaska Traffic Crash

A medical complication may have led to a La Crosse man dying right after

being in a traffic crash today. Onalaska Police and First Responders along with La Crosse Police and La Crosse County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the scene of the crash in the area of Hwy 16 and Hwy 157 near BMO Harris Bank.

Police found an unresponsive male behind the wheel of a car that had come to rest on a snowbank on the east side of Hwy 16 in front of BMO Bank. The car had been traveling westbound on Hwy 16 from the area of Theater Road. A witness in that area reported seeing the driver slumped over the wheel continuing to travel westbound on Hwy 16. The car had crossed into on-coming traffic before striking and knocking down a traffic signal at the intersection of Hwy 16 and Braund Street. From there, the car continued westbound until crossing into on-coming traffic and coming to rest on a snowbank in front of the bank.

The driver, pronounced dead at the scene is 37 year old Xao Xiong of La Crosse. Onalaska Police continue to investigate and anyone who witnessed the event who can provide further information is asked to call Onalaska Police.
