Oktoberfest Dig Begins

You may have noticed slightly more dump truck traffic than usual on the streets of La Crosse.  Maybe a lot more.  Xcel energy has begun the process of removing thousands of tons of soil from its contaminated property at the southside Oktoberfest grounds.  31 thousand tons of dirt.  60 trucks a day.  Dumped all the way in Eau Claire.   And when all the nasty dirt is finally removed, clean dirt has to replace it.

Brian Elwood from Xcel.  The whole project will cost about four million dollars.  Should be done by summer.  This year’s Oktoberfest is not expected to be impacted.
