Needles Every Where
One practice that has been used to limit the spread of AIDS is the offer of
clean needles to drug users. In Wisconsin, about two million needles were exchanged last year, and the number is growing in the La Crosse area. Laura Runchey with the AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin wants to dispel some of the myths about needle exchanges:
Runchey says that in La Crosse County, almost 75-thousand clean needles have been distributed since January…well above the total from last year. She spoke last week to a local task force studying the heroin epidemic in the La Crosse area.
