Another Scam….This Time Xcel Energy Involved

Scammers are about again……this time acting as a huge power Company.

 

At least three Winona County residents have been called by scam artists

claiming to be representatives of Xcel Energy. One person was told over the phone that his account was overdue and the power in his home would be shut off.

 

He was told to purchase a pre-paid money card to pay his bill with the operator. That person got suspicious because his Xcel bill was paid every month automatically and he hung up and called the FBI office in Minneapolis.

The Winona County Sheriff’s Office says they have received a couple of calls about a similar scam over the telephone but they have not investigated the calls.
