Len Bias Case Comes To End

The sentencing of a La Crosse woman this week for a heroin

death brings an end to Trempealeau County’s first ‘Len Bias’ case.

 

Tasha Kempfer was the first person convicted in Trempealeau County under a state law charging a person who supplies the drugs which cause a death to be held responsible.  Two heroin charges against Kempfer in La Crosse County were dismissed as a result of her guilty plea in Whitehall.  Kempfer was sentenced to five years in prison.  Her mother, Michelle Johnson, received probation for her role in the 2011 case, where a man died after snorting heroin.  Investigators say Johnson has now violated her probation and is at large.
