Caledonia Native in the NFL, Karl Klug Talks to Rick Solem

Karl Klug has some highlight plays in his three years in the NFL.

 

Sacking Drew Brees twice in one game. Getting Joe Flacco in his second-career game. His latest highlight came last Sunday.


The Caledonia, Minn., native sacked New York Jets’ quarterback Geno Smith, forced the fumble and recovered it for a touchdown as the Tennessee Titans home crowd screamed, “Kluuuuuuuug.”

The score helped seal a 38-13 Titans win.

 

Rick Solem talked to the 25-year-old defensive end about the play life in the NFL and the hometown fans yelling his name, including scores of those from Caledonia in the Metrodome.

Now in his third season, Klug has 11.5 career sacks – 7 his rookie year and 3.5 last year when Tennessee played from behind often and didn’t use the pass-rushing specialist as much.

Klug will be the first to tell you the touchdown was mostly luck.

 

He hasn’t scored a touchdown in football since his days at Caledonia High School, where he was a fullback and defensive end.

 

He had 20 sacks, 1,212 yards rushing and 15 touchdowns his senior season — and 53 sacks in three seasons — before heading to Iowa on a full scholarship in 2006.

 

In his final year at Iowa, he was a second-team All-Big Ten defensive tackle and co-team MVP.
