The incoming class at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse has broken a 39-year-old record.

The 2,180 freshmen is the most at the school since 1979.

UW-L director of admissions Corey Sjoquist says the experience of living in La Crosse and the programming options they offer has enticed students to campus.

"Certainly the new facilities that we have opening on campus," Sjoquist said of reasons for the large incoming class. "The opening of the Prairie Springs Science Center - that laboratory facility, we know know that has attracted more students this year than other years."

Sjoquist said they usually spend about 18 months recruiting new students for the next incoming class.
