Frels preparing to represent region on Wisconsin tourism board

Written by

The La Crosse area will have a representative on a statewide tourism board for the next three years.

Gov. Scot Walker has appointed A.J. Frels of the La Crosse County Convention and Visitor Bureau to the Wisconsin Council on Tourism.

The part-time position basically requires Frels to attend a few council meetings a year around the state.

"We service a sounding board to help with the dept of tourism and help have some input at the state level, where tourism is heading," Frels said.

Frels added that he was approached by the state to occupy a seat on the 21-member council. La Crosse state rep. Jill Billings also serves on the board.

"Sitting on the council, I would think would allow us to have a better insight on what's going on at the state level," Frels said.

Frels becomes one of 14 citizen members of the tourism council for the next three years.
