Kicking deputy in groin leads to charges against Winona woman

Written by

It was bad enough she tried to get away after a deputy stopped the car she was in.

It got worse when Jakittia Lakeisha Shanise Covington kicked an officer in the groin while being arrested early Sunday morning. The 21-year-old Winona woman is now charged with obstructing police.

She was riding in a car that was pulled over for having its high beams on near Fifth and Pelzer streets.

Once the car was stopped, she got out and tried walking away before a deputy grabbed her arm. Covington was described as "belligerent and destructive." As police tried to get her in the back of the squad car, that's when she allegedly kicked the officer in the groin.

She is held on a $3,000 unconditional bond. Her next court date is Aug. 20.
