Governor Walker silent on Trump's tariff's impact on Harley Davidson

Written by

It is becoming increasingly clear that trying to win a trade war is a dubious proposition. President Trump has imposed tariffs on a number of products made in other countries which are sold in the U.S. Not surprisingly, those other countries have responded by hiking tariffs on U.S. made products. Like Harley Davidson motorcycles. The European Union has hiked tariffs on the Milwaukee motorcycle maker from six to thirty-one percent. Harley has responded by announcing it will be shifting production of cycles sold in Europe to overseas locations. Trump has accused Harley of waving the white flag, and threatens to hit them with some unspecified tax. That all sounds rather unpatriotic, threatening an iconic American, and Wisconsin, company. But surely, Harley has the support of Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, who takes an annual Harley ride to highlight the Wisconsin based company? Not so much. Walker has been conspicuously silent on Trump's tariffs and the fact that it could cost the state jobs. He is willing to spend billions on Foxconn, which may or may not pay dividends, but can't even say a good word about a company that has called Wisconsin home for generations. Walker needs to stand up to Trump and tell him these tariffs are not helping American businesses succeed.
